Scott graduated from law school at the University of Oklahoma College of Law in 2005. He moved to Kansas City, MO to be near family. He took and passed both the Missouri and Kansas bar examinations on his first try. Scott accepted a job at the public defender's office in order to gain trial experience. He got exactly what he was looking for as his very first jury trial was a murder case. He stayed with the public defender's office for five years handling major cases and learning from some excellent mentors who taught him how to professionally litigate cases.
In 2010, Scott left the public defender's office in order to join the Air Force JAG Corps. He was initially assigned to Vandenberg AFB, CA. He spent two years working in the legal office prosecuting with a 100% conviction rate. He was then hand-selected over his peers to be the area defense counsel on Vandenberg AFB. In that job, he travelled frequently successfully defending a lot of courts-martials, including several full confession cases. Scott had some great mentors during this time as well, and the military justice system significantly improved his litigation skills that he has carried forward into his civilian career.
Scott left active duty in 2014 and went into the Reserves. As a reservist he spent time teaching that the JAG School and training the next generation of litigators. He was on a team that flies around the world teaching young lawyers how to try cases. He taught advanced litigation techniques and courses in order to raise the bar of JAG lawyers. He was also stationed in Okinawa and Alaska, where he got a lot of experience on how to run a legal office and advise commanders across a full spectrum of legal issues. He also utilized his time there mentoring and training young JAG lawyers on how to improve their litigation skills in the courtroom. Scott rose to the rank of Lt Col thanks to his impressive work and performance reports. He is a graduate of both Air Command Staff College and Air War College. His Air Force time left a lasting impact on how he approaches the practice of law, and as a result he is known for modeling professionalism at all times.
When Scott left active duty, he stayed in California because it was too nice to leave. That meant studying for the California bar examination, which he also passed on the first try. He went into business for himself and opened Taylor Defense Firm in 2015. Since then, Scott has handled cases ranging from driving while intoxicated, divorce, restraining orders, robbery, drug cases, and murder by torture. Scott also spent years teaching at the San Luis Obispo College of Law. He uses the lessons he learned as a young public defender, a military officer, and a law professor, and applied them in San Luis Obispo courtrooms in order to get the best results for his clients.
